The Old Barn

As we found it in November 1993

We are excited about this project

The old barns belonged to the original farmhouses. The lower barn was enlarged and converted into a hangar/séchoir, possibly after WWII. The upper barn was used for livestock until the 1980s and was divided into stalls when we arrived.

The interior was partially cleared and the building was saved from possible collapse with new masonry and a new roof in the Spring of 2008. Other projects then took precedence, so it wasn't until 2022 that we came back to it. This meant getting mains water & electricity on site, emptying it of all accumulated stuff, removing what remained of the old partitions and timbers, and levelling the ground in preparation for a new floor in concrete, covered by travertine.

This was a huge task, which took all of 2023 and was completed by Easter 2024.

The aim was to create a salle polyvalente - a multi-purpose space for gatherings, parties (barn dances), concerts, workshops or exhibitions. The footprint is 100m2, with catering facilities and generous lighting and electrics.

It is very exciting t0 give this old building new life. We hope that it will be the focus of many activities and events.
